The coconut weevil, Diocalandra frumenti, is a newly emerging insect pest of coconut in the Mekong delta. In order to evaluate the damage and to assist farmers in identifying the pest, damage situation and morphological characteristics of D. frumenti were investigated in Tra Vinh province. According to the results of  farmer interview, in 2012, only 0.3% coconut planting farmers were able to recognize the damage of D. frumenti, the ratio increased to 38.9% in 2013 and to  61.1% in 2014. Field investigation resulted that all investigated coconut orchards in Tra Vinh province had been attacked by D. frumenti with 56.2% of coconut trees were damaged. While 100% of interviewed farmers considered D. frumenti damaging coconut fruit, results of the investigation shown that trunk, leaf sheath, bunch and fruit of coconut were damaged by the weevil with the damage ratios were 33.4%, 1.97%, 17.6% and 7.79%, respectively. Body length of D. frumenti adult was averagely 5.45 mm in male and 6.46 mm in female
