This paper presents a comparison among three typical three-phase carrier-based pulse-width modulation (PWM) methods which include two of continuous PWM methods, sinusoidal PWM (SPWM) and space-vector PWM (SVPWM), and one of discontinuous PWM methods, DPWMMIN, based on the three most important modulator characteristics, linear modulation range, switching losses and current harmonics. Moreover, a simple scheme with less computation time to implement SVPWM and DPWMMIN on Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) is proposed. The scheme introduced is verified by simulation and experiment on the SmartFusionđEvaluation board A2F200M3F- FGG484 from Microsemi.
