Biofloc technology is currently a new  trend in aquaculture  and considered as suitable measure for water quality management in intensive culture systems of white leg shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) and tilapia (Oreochromis spp.).The systems are limited or zero water exchange to recycle nutrient by creating a high Carbon/Nitrogen (C/N) ratio in the water in order to stimulate heterotrophic bacterial growth directly and can be consumed by the cultured aquatic animals or harvested and used as a feed ingredient.

This study was conducted in the 12 tanks system (0.5 m3) to investigate the positive effects of salinity levels (0, 3, 6 and 9‰)  in the applied Biofloc technology system on water quality, floc parameters, total bacterial count and growth of Striped catfish (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus) from juvenile to fingerling stage. Four treatments were designed with triplicate during a time period of 30 days. Sugar and soybean powder were used as sources for Biofloc preparation separately from the feed (35% crude protein). The results indicated that Biofloc formed and developed well at high salinities (6 - 9‰) as well as water quality parameters were stable during experimental periods. Best growth and survival rate of stripped catfish obtained in 6‰.
