Bioactive microbial metabolites were isolated from the Actinobacteria, especially Streptomyces. Several researches showed that the isolated Streptomyces from marine is a potential microorganism source for their metabolite extractions. These compounds have enormous useful applications for human’s health such as antibiotic, antipathogen, anticancer and antioxidant. The objective of the study is to identify strains of Streptomyces sp. which is capable of inhibiting the a-amylase and a-glucosidase. Ten strains were isolated from 4 mangrove soil samples collected at Duyen Hai district, Tra Vinh province. Analyzing of morphological, physiological and biochemical characteristics indicated that 10 isolates belonged to Streptomyces genus. Extraction of the isolates was carried out with ethyl acetate. The ethyl acetate extracts of the isolates were screened for a-amylase and a-glucosidase inhibitory ability. Among the various strains, TVS1 showed significantly a-amylase and a-glucosidase inhibitory activities. Its IC50 values are 3.46 mg/mL and 0.051 mg/mL, respectively. The best potential strain was characterized by molecular taxonomy approach based on the 16S rRNA sequence. The strain TVS1 was identified as Streptomyces genus and designated as Streptomyces sp. TVS1. The 16S rRNA sequence of Streptomyces sp. TVS1 showed 99% similarity to Streptomyces cavourensis RD8.
