This article examines the reality of teaching career-oriented education in higher secondary
schools in Vietnam, focusing on teaching assignment and teaching process. The results show that the
assignment of teachers to teach career-oriented education has not been uniform in all surveyed schools,
and teachers face many difficulties in the teaching process due to the lack of professional training. In
addition, although the contents and tools for career-oriented education are diverse, they have not been
utilized properly to teach students how to understand career choices. This study proposes a number of
measures with the expectation that in the coming time, the teaching of career-oriented education can be
increasingly promoted and implemented in a more focused, logical and effective manner. Therefore, it can
not only meet the needs of career orientation from students, but also develop students’ competencies and
qualifications in the national curriculum 2018.
