This study investigates the determinants of households’ educational expenditure in the
Mekong Delta through the Viet Nam Living Standard Survey (VHLSS) data in 2022. The
Tobit model is used to identify factors that may influence and explain the households’
expenditure on education in the Mekong Delta. The findings found that eight factors
have a statistically significant impact of 1% to 10% on the households' educational
expenditure. They include 06 factors (age of household head, ethnicity of household
head, household’s size, place of residence, households with additional studying members
and household’s average income) which positively impact on the households’ educational
consumption and the other factors (educational level of household head and
participation in local government) which have negative impacts on the educational consumption
of the households. Given findings enable us to propose various suggestions
to optimize the investment and expenditure for the education of households in the Mekong
Delta.
