Organizational culture as a subject of formal study has captured the interest of a variety of researchers (e.g., Denison, 1990; Schein,2004). The literature on this topic falls broadly into two main schools of thought. One school takes a phenomenologicalapproach and focuses on understanding the concept and defining the meaning of culture (eg, A llaire & Firsirotu, 1984; Martin, 1992; Meek, 1988). Another school takes the functionalist approach and focuses on the consequences of  organizational culture. Empirical research has largely been on the functionalist perspective with impressive evidence on the role of organizational culture for firm outcomes (e.g., Calori & Sarnin, 1991; Denison, 2000).
