From a psychological perspective, without sufficient motivation, even the brightest learners are unlikely to persist long enough to attain any really useful language. For that reason, there are numerous studies on motivational aspect on university students. Unfortunately, little research on such issue has been carried out in post- graduate (Master students) teaching contexts. To fill the gap of that body of knowledge, this research measures motivation and motivated learning strategies of Master students learning non-major English at Can Tho university. The 19 item questionnaire was adapted from the Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ) to measure intrinsic and extrinsic motivation and motivated learning strategies used by 282 post-graduate learners. The findings are found and pedagogical suggestions are made to improve students academic achievement in crowded classrooms. TóM TắT Dưới ánh sáng của tâm lý giáo dục, khi người học thiếu động cơ học tập thì họ khó có thể tập trung và duy trì công việc tiếp thu ngoại ngữ một cách tích cực trong buổi học. Do vậy đã có nhiều nghiên cứu về lĩnh vực động cơ học tiếng Anh. Phần nhiều các nghiên cứu về lĩnh vực này tập trung vào đối tượng là sinh viên bậc đại học. Vì lý do trên đề tài nghiên cứu của chúng tôi tập trung khảo sát động cơ và chiến thuật học tập tiếng Anh không chuyên theo khung tham chiểu Châu Âu của học viên bậc sau đại học tại Trường Đại học Cần Thơ. 282 học viên bậc sau đại học tham gia trả lời Bảng hỏi các chiến thuật động cơ học tập. Kết quả nghiên cứu và đề xuất trong giảng dạy tiếng Anh được chúng tôi trình bày chi tiết dưới đây. |
