Flacourtia rukam Zoll. & Moritzi is a much-branched, evergreen, perennial tree which can be found in many tropical countries such as Madagascar, Moluccas (Maluku), New Guinea, Southern China, Taiwan and Southeast Asia [1,2,3]. This plant was used as traditional medicine in many Southeast Asia for the treatment of diarrhea, dysentery, dysmenorrhea skin allergies, pneumonia, and liver ailments [1,3]. One new phenolic glycoside named (7S,8S)-4-O-methyl-syringylglycerol-8-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (1), together with four known compounds 6-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-β-D-glucopyranoside of methyl salicylate (2), 3-O-(E)-caffeoylquinic acid (3), 4-O-(E)-caffeoylquinic acid (4), 5-O-(E)-caffeoylquinic acid (5) were isolated from the methanolic extract of leaves of Flacourtia rukam. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods including 1D and 2D NMR, UV, IR, ESI-HRMS, optical rotation and in comparison with literature data.
