Artemia is a popular aquaculture candidate along Baclieu, Soctrang coastline which engages to thousands of solar salt-fields, locally. Even thought it is an exotic species but the introduction of Artemia into the salt production system has been proved to bring remarkable benefits in term of both economically and environmentally for salt production farmers. Traditional Artemia culture model were developed and applied by local farmers more than twenty years ago and the culture procedure has not been changed since then in most of Artemia farms. As a routine procedure, the cultured ponds required a lot of organic mater like chicken manure (i.e. up to tons per ha per month) as supplemental food into the culturing ponds. The accumulation of organic matter for a long term in the pond sediment effects to other aquaculture activities has been reported. In an effort to reduce the risks for environment as well as the community heath due to bird flue in recent year, a high protein commercial shrimp feed for PL15 (CSF) were investigated and successfully for replacing part of chicken manure during the production period. However, the disadvantage of this feed is high protein content (more than 40 percent); expensive and unsuitable size for Artemia. Based on the Artemia requirement, a lower protein content feed (app. 30 percent) were developed with the aim to replace the use of chicken manure in Artemia culture pond. Results from laboratory experiments showed that there were no different in survival (89-93% versus 92%) growth (6.1-6.7mm vs. 6.4cm) after 14 days of culturing when using experimental feeds and CSF. Important reproductive parameters showed a similar tendency but the encysted off-springs produced per female were higher in experimental feeds (11.3-14.1% versus only 6.1% in CSF). Beside that, an trial system in 500 litter tanks also confirmed this results, survival rate was recorded at more than 70% after 3 weeks culturing;  Artemia get maturity after only 6 days of inoculums and gave the production of 12.4-14.1g of cysts and 1.09-1.21kg biomass after 4 weeks of culture which were optimistically compared  to the field production.
