The effect of water temperature changes on hematological and growth of giant gouramy (Osphronemus goramy) fingerlings was studied with two experiments. The fish fingerlings with body weight of 17-20 g were subjected to different temperatures (22°C, 25°C, 28°C (control), 31°C and 34°C) for 28 days to exam the hematological changes; and the fingerlings of 10 g were exposed to mentioned range of temperatures for 90 days to monitor the growth.

The hematological parameters such as hemoglobin, hematocrit, glucose and red and white blood cells were determined at different points of time (0 hrs. or starting, 96 hrs. 7 days, 14 days and 28 days). The results showed that hemoglobin and hematocrit were affected significantly (poC) if compared to those of other treatments (25 oC, 28oC, 31oC), the highest plasma hemogobin and hematocrit concentrations after 28 day rearing in 34oC were 8.74 mg/100mL and 36.6 % respectively. The glucose concentrations were significantly increased at elevated temperature (31oC and 34oC) during the first two weeks, there were 58.19 mg/100mL and 63.63 mg/100mL compared to 43.6 mg/100mL (28oC). The growth of fish showed better in the increased temperature treatments in comparison with the control. The daily weight gain of the fish rearing in 28oC and 31oC were 0.615g/day and 0.684 g/day respectively. These data show significant effect of temperature on the blood parameters and growth of giant gouramy.
