It is proved that biofloc technology can improve environmental control, biosecurity, aquaculture production and quality, typically for high density aquaculture systems. This paper reported preliminary results of a practical shrimp farm applied biofloc techniques for two stages shrimp culture at Truc Anh Company, Bac Lieu province in collaboration with Can Tho University. This shrimp culture model was carried under nylon netting pond (500m2) for the first stage of 25 days of culture period. Afterwards, shrimps were transferred to grow out ponds (2.200-4.000m2) for the second stage, which were exposed to natural light for 42-47 days of culture. White leg shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) seeds were stocked at density of 600-1.000 PL12/m2 for stage 1 and 110-120 ind./m2 for stage 2 (below Table). Shrimps were fed according to their requirements with feeding machine. Flocs were created correlating to daily feeding amount by using molasses at C:N ratio of 12:1, combination with probiotic supplementation. Daily input materials, water parameters were well managed. The results showed that the average survival rate was above 90% for the first stage and 90-94% for the second stage; and production yielded up to 18-22 tons/ha/crop after total of 67-72 days with FCR of 0.9-1.1. The results of this study showed a highly potential use of this technology for practical commercial scale for important advantages of limited water use, high biosecurity, no harmful chemical use, food safety, environmental friendly practices, and high production and income. Especially, this two-phased culture practice also a very effective solution to adapt to climate change impacts which are big concerned issues in the Mekong Delta.
