This study aimed to evaluate domestication and seed selection approach of giant freshwater prawn through three generations in order to improve quality of prawn seed for grow-out in Vietnam. The study was conducted during 2010-2013 with wild prawn sources collected from Dong Nai river. Each pair of males and females of prawn juvenile was cultured in 1-m2 hapa to become broodstocks. Largest berried broodstock were selected for hatching and larval culture in modified static green water system. Largest postlarvae (PL15) (10%) from the larval rearing (F1) were selected for nursing in happas (150 inds/m2) to be PL45, and then to commercial sizes (15 inds/m2) and then to broodstocks (1 pair/hapa). About 10% of the largest prawns from each stage were selected for the next stage. The broodstocks were then used for F2 and then F3 generations with similar methods. Results indicated that fecundity of prawn broodstocks of F2 were strongly improved  at 109% compared to those of Fo and  68% compared to F1. PL15 body lengh (BL) of F3 were improved 18.95% compared to F1 and 3.67 compared to F2. Body weight of prawns of F3 after 4 months of grow-out were improved 15.28% compared to F1 and 6.96% compared to F2.  Yield of prawn of  F3 in grow-out phase were increased 19% compared to those of F2. Net-income of prawn farming of F3 was improved 15.9% compare to those of F2.  The findings indicate that domestication and seed selection of giant freshwater prawn are very promising methods to improve broodstock and seed quality for prawn farming.
