This study examines the impact of the family policy of the Soviet bloc countries on the codification of Vietnam's family law in 1959s. The first section of this study will examine the basic family policy of the former Soviet bloc countries, based on socialist theories on the role of the family, with significant contributions from theorists such as Lenin (Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov), Karl Heinrich Marx, and Friedrich Engels. It will then proceed to the codification of Vietnam's family law in the 1959s under the influence of socialism's family approach.
